Telford bus theft suspect back in court over alleged charity shop theft

The incident reportedly took place the day before the alleged bus theft

An asylum seeker accused of stealing a bus in Telford after allegedly attacking the driver was back in court this week.

33-year-old Ali Balhad, who is currently in custody, appeared before Telford Magistrates Court via video link on Monday morning facing one charge of theft from a store.

During an initial hearing in September, the court was told Balhad faced several charges, including aggravated vehicle taking, attempted grievous bodily harm, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, robbery and three counts of criminal damage.

Balhad, a Yemeni national, was also facing one charge of stealing a size 22 women's coat from a Severn Hospice charity shop in Telford, which reportedly took place on September 17, the day before the alleged bus theft in Madeley.

Matters relating to the alleged Madeley incident are due to be dealt with at Shrewsbury Crown Court at a later date.

No pleas have been entered to any of the charges so far.

However, Monday’s proceedings - arranged to deal with the shop theft - were adjourned until November 13 after an interpreter could not be arranged in time.
