'Blood everywhere' after Telford woman, 33, shoved her partner in row over Snapchat contact with ex
The victim has been left with a permanent scar after the push which split her head open
A woman’s head was split open, leaving her covered in blood and thinking she was “going to die”, after her partner shoved her into a window sill during a row.
Cheniece Mitford’s victim felt like she had been “hit with an axe” when tempers flared over Mitford’s contact with her ex.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Mitford, aged 33, and her partner at the time were lying in bed at home in Telford on the night of January 25 last year. The victim’s child was also in the house.
Mitford’s partner couldn’t get to sleep. She checked Mitford’s phone and found out she still had her ex-partner listed as a contact on Snapchat.
An argument ensued in which Mitford’s partner began throwing her belongings out the front door, including her phone.
Mitford then pushed the victim, who fell backwards and hit her head on a window sill.
‘Stay with me, keep your eyes open’
The victim said there was “blood everywhere” and that “I felt like I’d been hit in the head with an axe”.
A worried Mitford told her “stay with me, stay with me, keep your eyes open,” as she waited for an ambulance.
The victim was taken to Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. She suffered a 10cm laceration from the top of her head to her cheekbone which needed 12 stitches and has left a large, permanent scar.
After dropping the victim’s child off at their grandmother’s house, she then joined her at the hospital.
“She [Mitford] asked her not to tell police,” said Richard Davenport, prosecuting. “But she admitted it to the victim’s mother via text message.”
Mitford was arrested but denied the assault during her police interview.
The court was told that she is now married to the woman whose presence on her Snapchat caused the fight. She was in court to support Mitford.
The victim said in an impact statement that she now has post-traumatic stress disorder and has suffered with her physical and mental health.
“I have bad headaches every day,” she said. “I don’t feel confident with my appearance now. Members of the public ask questions.”
Mitford, of Pickering Road, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.
She has two previous convictions for three offences, including shoplifting, battery and criminal damage.
Steve Hennessy, mitigating, said this was “an unfortunate incident, bordering on an accident”.
Recorder Julian Taylor told Mitford: “It was a push which ended up having very serious consequences. That’s the way it goes with these reckless assaults.
“You were reckless and you were foolish. You were the cause of that scar and she will have that permanently.”
He handed Mitford an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered her to pay the victim £1,000 in compensation.
Mitford was also ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work and made subject of a 12-month probation requirement.
