Glyn Davies, Montgomeryshire's MP for the last seven years, is encouraging everyone to vote in tomorrow's local government elections.

Tory Mr Davies said: "This Thursday, we have a very important election in Montgomeryshire, as well as the launch of campaigns for a General Election on June 8.

"I can understand why some might be feeling a sense of voter fatigue. Devolution and the EU referendum have created a more engaged democracy, which I encourage everyone to grasp.

"Even though I will be personally consumed by my attempt and desire to be re-elected as Montgomeryshire MP on June 8, this week my focus will be on elections to Powys County Council.

"My General Election campaign begins in earnest after our new council has been elected this Thursday."

Mr Davies said the local government elections have never been so crucial for candidates.

"My Conservative Party Association in Montgomeryshire has never taken our elections for Powys County Council so seriously. We are contesting 27 of the 33 wards on the council," he said.

He added: "While I naturally hope our Conservative candidates are elected, I also think it's important that everyone casts their vote.

"The new Council will face many challenges, and we in turn, need to challenge candidates on their policies and attitudes as we cast our votes. It's our democracy - so let's embrace it and make sure it delivers for us."

This year's local election count will be taking place at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells, and the local authority says voters will be able to follow the results via their website and Twitter feed @PowysCC
