Joby Pool stole a lorry trailer containing 200,000 Creme Eggs

Joby Pool, 32, was arrested on the M42 an hour after stealing the trailer containing the chocolate from an industrial unit in Stafford Park on February 11.

Shrewsbury Crown court heard on Thursday that Pool had stolen an HGV tractor unit from Castleford, Yorkshire, which he drove to Telford for the theft in what Judge Anthony Lowe said would have taken some "significant planning".

Prosecutor Mr Dafyyd Roberts said Pool had pulled up in the tractor unit in Stafford Park at around 7.30pm.

He said: "He used an angle grinder to break the chain to the gate. He then drove in, hitched up one of the trailers and drove it away with the trailer attached."

He said the trailer was valued at £23,000 and the contents of Creme Eggs had a value of £31,000.
