Youngsters at a Shropshire school have come on board with our Christmas Toy Appeal by holding their own collection.

Pupils from Charlton School in Wellington have joined in with this year's appeal, which aims to bring a bit of festive joy to youngsters who might be finding Christmas a difficult time of year.

Now in its fourth year, the appeal is a joint venture between the Shropshire Star and our partners at Storage King in Shrewsbury.

The youngsters have been collecting a wide range of gifts for the appeal, which will be shared between five different groups.

Telford Young Carers, which provides support for youngsters who care for a loved one, The Harry Johnson Trust which helps young people with cancer, Hope House Children's Hospice and The Movement Centre for children with cerebral palsy will all benefit from this year's appeal. Some of the toys will also go to the children's ward at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

Sarah Davies, head of house activities at the school, said last year the school had supported the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.

"This year we wanted to channel our energies in to something which supported our local community," she said.

"The Christmas Toy Appeal was perfect for this, as it is trying to support five charities which are at the heart of our community.

"They provide so much support for the people of Shropshire throughout the year, that it's our way of giving something back."

She added that the school had supported a number of charity events throughout the year, and the Christmas Toy Appeal allowed the pupils to complete the year in a positive way.

We are still asking readers to help with the appeal, by bringing in brand new toys, games, books and other gifts suitable for children and teenagers to our four collection points:
