With representatives from Italy, Hungary, Japan, Turkey, China, India and Bulgaria, there was plenty to see, try and eat during the event at Randlay Community Centre.

The town's MP Lucy Allan was invited to the event, and said it was a wonderful way to learn about the world.

"“I tasted food from Taiwan to Turkey and was even shown how to do Japanese Calligraphy and I learned a few words of Italian. There was Hungarian dancing in national dress," she said.

"By tasting different foods we could learn about different cultures and traditions and I particularly enjoyed hearing individual stories from around the world.

"It’s a wonderful way to learn about the world, to break down barriers and bring people together. I was honoured to be invited to open the event.

"Hollinswood and Randlay Parish Council organise some fantastic community events throughout the year and this one is one of my favourites."

Maria Raisbeck, organiser of the event, said she hopes to hold another as soon as possible.

"We had people from Japan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, China, all over really," she said. "We had music and dancing and loads of food. There were tasters, and things to buy too.

"Lots of people came along and it was just really good. It was so nice to see all these people around enjoying the music, food and dancing. We had costumes from the different countries and also information about the cultures. It was great to all come together. I will definitely be planning another one in the future."
