Firefighters rescue person from cliff at Shropshire beauty spot

A woman rescued from a cliff face at a county beauty spot was airlifted to hospital.

The woman was rescued at Haughmond Hill near Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon.

Ambulance officials said she had suffered "serious" injuries, but added they were not thought to be life threatening.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three crews to the scene of the incident, after receiving a call at around 3pm.

The air ambulance service and a land ambulance were also called to the location.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a patient who had fallen near to Haughmond Hill at 2.38pm on Sunday.

"One ambulance, two paramedic officers, the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and the Welsh Air Ambulance attended the scene.

"Ambulance staff worked with other emergency service colleagues to bring the patient, a woman, to safety, before treating her for serious, but not thought to be life-threatening injuries.

"She was then airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment."
