Air ambulance called to scene of serious crash near Shrewsbury

Air ambulance medics flew to the scene of a serious crash near Shrewsbury today.

The crash happened on the A458 at Churncote at around midday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving two cars on the A458 at 11.50am. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire and the Welsh Air Ambulance are in attendance at the scene. The incident is still ongoing, more details will follow when available."

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.59am we received a call reporting that a road traffic collision had taken place in Shrewsbury.

"One fire appliance was mobilised."

A Highways England spokesman said: "The A458 in Shropshire is closed in both directions between the A5 and the Welsh border due to a serious collision involving two cars."
