Activists and supporters from Open Britain, the European Movement and Britain for Europe were out to spread the word of their movement and gather support.

The day of action came ahead of the launch of a new 'People's Vote' campaign, calling for the British people to be given the final say on any Brexit deal.

Mary Davies, from Open Britain’s Shrewsbury group, said: "We are out here today in Shrewsbury with other pro-European groups to campaign for a say on the final Brexit deal.

"Each day that passes shows Brexit is turning out to be much more complicated and costly than people were told during the referendum. That’s why a ‘People’s Vote’ on the final Brexit deal would be fair and democratic."

The flagship event in Shrewsbury was one of 12 across the country in areas that voted both Remain and Leave, running alongside hundreds of smaller events including a further 14 in the West Midlands.

Shrewsbury campaigners brought out their 'Brexitometer' which people stuck stickers on to indicate their feelings towards Brexit.

Ms Davies said: "It was another successful day of campaigning by the local Open Britain group alongside other local pro-European activists.

"The pro-European campaigners also handed out leaflets and had numerous discussions with local people on Brexit and about having a final say on the deal. No end of people signed the petition 'Give the people a final vote on Brexit'."
