Belated Christmas presents for charities
Charities are getting a belated Christmas present thanks to the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club's Santa Sleigh.
The club has begun sending cheques to local clubs and organisations that will benefit from the 2020 Santa Sleigh collections at supermarkets and around the streets of Oswestry, Morda, St Martins, Gobowen and West Felton before Christmas.
They are the Oswestry based, mental health charity, U&I, Hope House Respite Care, Whittington Castle, West Mercia Search and Rescue, OsNosh and the Lingen Davies cancer care fund.
Club President Robin Brown said that he final collection figure for 2020 was a magnificent £4,600 and he stressed that, because the club is a registered charity, that figure will be enhanced by Gift Aid.
"Of course, the street collection is far less than the 2019 figure because of the pandemic but much more than expected in these very difficult times for everyone but is due to the great generosity of our residents," he said.
“We were so impressed with the generosity or residents through December and that has made it possible for us to support our local organisations. This financial support is more important than ever to the smaller groups at this time”.
The Oswestry Cambrian club welcomes men, women or couples of 18+ from the local community who want to be “people of action”. For more information contact Mike Lade on 01691 570917, info@oswestrycambrianrc.co.uk or see www.oswestrycambrianrc.co.uk.
