Talks over dog mess warden idea for Oswestry
Dog walkers in Oswestry could be given £80 fines if they fail to clean up after their dogs.
Councillor Jay Moore has put forward a motion to tonight's Oswestry Town Council meeting asking the authority to look at ways of taking on legal responsibility for the problem.
He said he had been looking into how other areas manage, following numerous complaints about dog faeces in Oswestry.
"Certain areas have now outsourced dog fouling duties to a third party company. The company issues fixed penalty notices for offenders failing to clean up after their dogs with some fines imposed at £80.
"I propose the town council itself could take a legal responsibility for this problem and look into either outsourcing or creating positions ourselves to tackle the issue."
"Such action would not only tackle an ongoing issue but could create a potential additional revenue stream for the council."
