Only a handful of charging points have been introduced around Shropshire, and calls have repeatedly been made for more to be introduced.

On Wednesday, Oswestry Town Council confirmed that charging points will now be introduced in the central car park in the town.

Discussions have been on going and the council will now push forward with the move, and will be speaking to different companies before installing the points.

Chair of the town's markets and town centre committee Paul Milner said: "This will be huge for Oswestry, and shows we are moving with the times.

"More electric cars are on the road now but there is a lack of places for them to charge up.

"We will be having these in Oswestry, it will give people a place to charge up and then it will benefit the town and the economy by bringing more people in."

Earlier this year calls were made in Powys for points to be introduced, there is just one electric charging point for every 98,000 people across Wales.
