Power and telephone lines were brought down in the accident near Weston Rhyn with local residents left without electricity and their phones.

Police and the fire service were called to the scene just before midnight on Saturday.

Constable Dave Wagg said: "A black Mitsubishi Warrior left the road and collided with a telegraph pole and garden fence causing considerable damage and disruption to power and phone lines.

"The vehicle came to rest on its side within a brook that runs alongside the road. The driver was not injured."

He said that utilities companies were called out to make the power and phone lines safe and to restore supply.

A man has been arrested on suspicious of theft and drink driving.
