Fire crews have controlled the major of the deep seated fires on Llantysilio Mountain but are still maintaining a presence there to ensure they don't spark into life again.

A section of the A542 Horseshoe Pass remained closed last night.

Firefighters have spend hundreds of hours battling the fire that has spread across the moorland.

The mother of firefighter Clare Dulson from Chirk Fire Station has revealed that her daughter spent her 40th birthday on the mountain with her crew.

Jayne Dulson said: "She spent her birthday evening trying to contain some of the most challenging conditions that they have had so far ,and I was worried sick about her.

"The firefighters have spent so long up there, whilst trying to juggle a day job, families and no sleep. They deserve our praise."

Individuals and businesses have been donating snacks and energy drinks for the firefighters.
