The figures confirm the current state of NHS waiting lists.

Waiting list data shows that 34,754 patients were waiting for non-urgent elective operations or treatment at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) at the end of July, while there were 14,749 at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) near Oswestry.

For SaTH, which operates Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, the number was down from 35,176 in June, and 36,834 in July 2022 – but 2,183 had been waiting for longer than a year.

The median waiting time from referral at an NHS Trust to treatment at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital was 16 weeks at the end of July – the same as in June.

The RJAH waiting list was up slightly from 14,688 in June, and 14,166 in July 2022, with 1,210, having been waiting for longer than a year.

Nationally, 7.7 million people were waiting to start treatment at the end of July.

Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting said patients were waiting an "unacceptably long" time.
