The annual meeting of the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital heard that the hospital is in a healthy position, despite a challenging financial year.

Director of Finance Craig Macbeth addressed the meeting, and told how the hospital was in a good position.

It had reduced its surplus from £1.5 million to £600,000 for the year 2017/2018, and had received £600,000, plus a £1.2 million bonus that has gone to helping other areas of the hospital.

Overall £4.1 million of efficiencies have been made in the last year, thanks to the hospital's efficiency programme.

That is in the same time that the hospital has been able to invest £2.4 million in its capital programme.

Mr Macbeth also explained how around £1.2 million had been paid back this year to a loan that was taken out to re-furbish parts of the hospital.

Welcomed

Mr Macbeth said: "It has been a challenging year but the hospital is in a good position.

"Overall in the year 2017/18 we finish the year in better financial shape that at the start."

Board members at the annual general meeting on Thursday welcomed the figures.

Information handed out to all those attending outlined how the hospital had invested money in the last year.

It had spent £500,000 replacing beds that had been in the hospital for years.

They also used part of the £2.4 million to refurbish the outpatients department in a bid to improve patients experience and address environmental issues.

Other investments went on the medical gas plant upgrade, fire risk reduction work and theatre and recovery equipment.
