Now in its fifth year, The Arable Event, has expanded its trial plantings and will be putting sprayer technology front and centre, with demonstrations of some of the latest kit from leading manufacturers.

The free-to-attend one-day event drew more than 1,200 people from across the sector in 2017 and organisers Wynnstay and GrainLink are hoping for even more this year.

Taking place on June 20 at Woodlands Farm, Weston-under-Lizard, on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border, the Arable Event sees the return of all of its most popular attractions – along with free refreshments throughout the day.

The already extensive trial planting has been extended this year. Established by Syngenta in September, it includes winter wheat, winter barley, oilseed rape, soya and winter triticale. Also this year will be plots of cover crops, as both individual species and mixtures, including oilseed radish, phacelia, barseem clover, black oats, white mustard, brown mustard, vetch and forage rye.

A key feature for 2018 will be demonstrations of the latest spraying technology which will take place on the trial plots, with: RVW Pugh due to bring the Fendt Rogator 600 self-propelled sprayer; Rea Valley Tractors with the John Deere R4050i self-propelled machine; Battlefield Machinery bringing the Kverneland iXtrack T3 trailed sprayer; Edwards and Farmer with an example of the latest self-propelled Househam sprayers.

Also returning will be the popular soil trench, with specialist Mark Tripney, who will be discussing the benefits and implications of soil health for the farm, linking the chemistry, physics and biology.

Presentations and discussions will be taking place throughout the day in the marquee (further details to be confirmed) and a free moisture meter clinic will also be available. Attendees can also gather CPD points from Basis and NRoSO.

Refreshments are free throughout the day and there is ample free parking for everyone. Due to the popularity of The Arable Event, pre-registration is highly recommended and speeds entry on the day. Registration is quick and simple and can be done by visiting www.thearableevent.co.uk
