Telford & Wrekin schools set for boost of £294 per pupil
Mainstream schools in Telford & Wrekin will see an extra £294 for every pupil over the next two years.
The rise of 6.8 per cent per pupil in 2019/20 is set to be approved at a meeting of Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet on January 3.
It resulted from the Department for Education's National Funding Formula, and follows a consultation with the Schools Forum.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, the council’s cabinet member for education, said: “It is clear that the National Funding Formula is benefiting schools in Telford & Wrekin and this is good news.
“We have always believed that our funding was held at an unjustifiably low level and the increase in money we are receiving goes some way to prove that point.”
The borough's increase is the 13th biggest of England's 152 local education authorities.
The actual allocations to individual schools will be finalised when census data is released by the Department for Education.
The amount each school receives will also depend on how much is 'top-sliced' from mainstream budgets to support children with special educational needs or disabilities.
The Schools Forum has already agreed a top-slice of 0.5 per cent and will debate a possible further £250,000 when it meets on January 17 – although any top slice above 0.5 per cent has to be agreed by the Secretary of State.
