Callum Relf, 28, of Thimble Lane in St. Martins, near Oswestry, pleaded guilty to two charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and attempting to cause a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Magistrates were told that the offences took place between January 16 and January 27 this year, when Relf sent a friend request on social media app Snapchat to somebody he believed to have been a 12-year-old girl.

Maggie Meakin, prosecuting, said that it had in fact been an undercover police officer.

She said during the time in question, Relf, who told the girl he was 18, sent sexual messages to the officer and images of himself.

Magistrates said the offences were too serious to be sentenced by the bench and they sent Relf for sentencing at Shrewsbury Crown Court at a date to be confirmed.

Relf was granted unconditional bail.
