Man jailed for rusty machete attack after taking 'awful lot of cannabis'

Suffering from persistent bereavement disorder after the “one after another” loss of relatives Jan Wynne, 35, resorted to cannabis – with a violent result, a court heard.

He couldn’t remember wielding a machete with which he badly injured a man in a house where the defendant was staying.

Jailing Wynne, of Ivy Crescent, Mold, for eight years and two months Judge Rhys Rowlands said he had taken “an awful lot of cannabis".

He added at Mold Crown Court: “Cannabis doesn’t assist with mental health at all, quite the opposite.”

The 7am attack happened in Buckley in February and Wynne pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

Paulinus Barnes, prosecuting, said the victim Lee Evans, 46, was assaulted in his room with a 12-inch blade of a rusty machete, wielded with powerful force.

A 10-year restraining order was imposed.
