The victim, in his late 20s, had his phone and keys stolen in the "nasty" assault, which happened at 5.20am on New Year's Eve.

He was walking along the Silkin Way in the direction of Stirchley, near the Chapel Lane area, when he was approached by the two men.

They hit him in the face and knocked him to the ground before kicking him repeatedly.

He lost consciousness and was found by passersby, who called the emergency services.

When he awoke, his mobile phone, cash and a set of keys were missing. He was treated for head injuries but has been released from hospital.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said: “This was a particularly nasty incident that left the victim both injured and understandably shaken.
