A man was arrested by officers after an Esso garage on Lancaster Road, Harlescott, was robbed at about 7.40am yesterday by a man claiming to have a weapon.

Officers are also investigating an incident on Friday night, when a Co-op store on Wenlock Road was raided by five men who threatened staff and tried to take money from a cash machine. The machine was empty and the men left in a car soon afterwards.

It also emerged today that a group of men tried to take away a cashpoint from Alveley on Tuesday.

Police said they "rapidly" arrived on the scene at 10.35pm, five minutes after members of the public had reported the men, but the would-be thieves had already fled. They had damaged the cash machine but no money had been taken.

It is not clear if the three seperate attacks are linked. West Mercia Police is investigating and anyone with information is encouraged to call 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information.
