Warning issued on Oswestry bogus gardener scam
Police are warning of a conman who scammed money from an Oswestry resident by pretending to carry out gardening at their home.
The man, described as a teenager, walked into a house in Meadow Close through an unlocked door at about 11am on July 18.
He demanded £300 for work he said he had done in the garden, then reduced the sum to £130.
Police say he eventually left with £40. They said no work had been requested, no identification was show and no receipt was given.
The male is described as white, approximately five foot four inches tall, in his late teens, with short brown hair and wearing a yellow T-shirt and navy blue jeans.
Officers are warning people to be on their guard against callers and keep doors locked.
