'Words escape me' - Telford mayor blasts car arsonists
The Mayor of Telford and Wrekin today condemned the behaviour of arsonists following a rise in car blazes arsons across the borough in recent months.
There were two separate arson attacks on vehicles in Arleston and Overdale within a matter of days of each other last week.
Mayor of Telford and Wrekin, Councillor Stephen Reynolds said it was very ‘upsetting’ and has condemned the rise in attacks.
He said: “It’s been an issue for a while now.
“I don’t know what’s got into some people and why they are doing it.
“I don’t know if it’s just boredom or the thrill of it. Words escape me.
“It’s most upsetting for the people affected by it.
“I’m hoping the police can catch the people doing these types of things and resolve this particular issue.”
It comes as the owner of the car that was torched in Princess Avenue, Arleston, in the early hours of Friday morning has put up a £3,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information that leads to a conviction for the attack.
Alan Mustafa has spoken of his shock after his red Vauxhall Astra was set alight outside his home.
It happened just days after three cars were damaged in Overdale, with the culprit caught on CCTV dousing a vehicle with petrol before setting it alight. Call police on Anyone with information should contact West Mercia Police on 101.
