Benjamin Wintle, aged 21, pleaded guilty to one charge of arson on August 14 last year, when he appeared at the town’s crown court.

The case relates to an incident where a fire door and light worth £500 were set on fire at Buttermarket nightclub in Howard Street.

Wintle, of Sundorne Avenue, will be sentenced later this month and was granted conditional bail until then.

Judge Peter Barrie said he wanted reports to be carried out on Wintle before he could sentence him.

He said: “It is appropriate in all the circumstances of this case to ask the probation service for a report.”

The nightclub reported an ‘explosion’ at the time it happened.
