Thieves target postal boxes in rural Shropshire areas
Police are urging residents to report anyone acting suspiciously near post boxes after four were stolen from rural areas in Shropshire over the past few weeks, it has been revealed.
A mailbox was taken from the Old Racecourse on the outskirts of Oswestry between 11am on Thursday and 10am on Friday of last week.
Post boxes have also been taken from Park Drive and Whittington Road near Oswestry and from Bronygarth near Weston Rhyn.
Another box at Shellbrook Hill in Sodylt, near Ellesmere, was also targeted and police believe the thefts may be linked to several others across the border in the Wrexham area.
Shropshire councillor Trevor Davies, who represents the Bronygarth and Old Racecourse areas, said: "I would urge the public to remain vigilant especially in rural areas. If residents see anything suspicious they should contact the police.
"I am not only worried about the theft of the boxes but also whether there was any mail in them. Interfering with the Royal Mail is a very serious offence."
Anyone with information should call the town police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
