The Hole in the Wall in Shrewsbury is known for being an 'old pub of character' following its half a million pound refurbishment in 2022.

The pub underwent a major refurbishment which was a transformation of the interior with a complete redecoration, but some of the things that remained were the original features of the centuries old pub such as the beams and walls, that still give it the old traditional look whilst also having a modern touch thanks to the work.

Robert Hynes, 41, is the general manager of the establishment after taking over in May 2022, where he made the move from his native Warwickshire to the town of Shrewsbury, and speaking about that, he said: "I have always worked in the pub trade and was previously running one in Nuneaton but this pub was offered to me and I was told that a refurbishment would be taking place and that enticed me to make the move.

"I really enjoy the role and especially running the Hole in the Wall pub, no day is the same here and you meet people from all walks of life when running a pub but especially here in Shrewsbury.

"Running a pub is great because of the social aspect, you have great conversations with people you normally wouldn't, and then there is the entertainment aspect, so we do our best to cater to the different guests we get and put entertainment on for them all.

"The customers really like the work that was completed last year too, it gave it a fresh look and modernisation whilst also keeping the original features such as the beam and the wall, which keeps the old, traditional look to it, and so there is a great combination."
