Poundland has unveiled big plans

It is part of plans to open or relocate 75 stores over the next three months as part of the largest quarterly growth programme in the retailer's history.

The programme covers both its existing pipeline of new stores and the former Wilko stores it has already opened, or plans to open, as new Poundland stores.

The discount retailer has already opened a new store in Telford at Forge Retail Park and has now revealed it will open a new store at the former M&Co site at 34-35 High Street, Newport in December.

Former Wilko stores will also begin their Poundland journey over the next two weeks, bringing the total number of rapid Wilko-to-Poundland conversions to 56.

Among these will be the opening of its store in Shrewsbury on Level 3 of the Darwin Shopping Centre on Saturday.

All new Poundland stores – both Wilko and non-Wilko units – will carry the extensive grocery, household and general merchandise ranges customers expect.

They will also feature the very latest Pepco family clothing that has rolled out to 500-plus of Poundland’s existing UK and Ireland stores.

Austin Cooke, Poundland’s managing director said: “To open 75 stores in the space of a single quarter is nothing short of a super-human effort from every member of the Poundland team.

"To each and every one of them I say ‘thank you’. But we’re working at this pace because we’re on a mission –ambitious to grow, create jobs and serve new communities by opening shops customers and communities can be proud of.”
