Decision due on Kwik Saves

The future of Kwik Save stores across Shropshire and Mid Wales was due to be decided today. Branches in Shrewsbury, Wellington, Oswestry and Welshpool were saved last year.

They were bought by Back To The Future a company set up to run the supermarket. But their future of the stores was uncertain today, with staff and customers fearing they could close.

Other UK stores were sold off last year by Somerfield, forcing some branches to close.

Kwik Save spokeswoman Lucy McCullock said an announcement was due to be made today.

She refused to comment on individual stores and said the decision came after "lots of changes with the new management team at head office". Customers at the Kwik Save store in Wellington have seen shelves left empty over the last few weeks and staff said they did not know if their jobs were safe.

One worker said she had "not got a clue" if the store would be staying open.

On Monday, lawyers for Kwik Save were trying to convince a judge to let the company enter administration.
