She refused to comment on individual stores and said the decision came after "lots of changes with the new management team at head office". Customers at the Kwik Save store in Wellington have seen shelves left empty over the last few weeks and staff said they did not know if their jobs were safe.
One worker said she had "not got a clue" if the store would be staying open.
On Monday, lawyers for Kwik Save were trying to convince a judge to let the company enter administration.
