In a busy night for Newport firefighters, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were called to Vineyard Road twice in the early hours of today (Sunday, February 2).

The first call came in at 2am, reporting that a wheelie bin was alight.

One crew from Newport Fire Station was sent to the property where they tackled the fire with a jet. They reported the blaze under control by 2.14am.

Less than an hour later, at 3.11am, firefighters were summoned back to the same street after reports that a shed and a wheelie bin were on fire.

An SFRS spokesperson said the shed and the bin were "engulfed in fire".

The incident log stated: "Crews used a hose reel jet and drag rakes to extinguish whilst wearing breathing apparatus."

The 'stop message', which indicates the scene was under control, was received at 3.32am.
