The 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe will take place on May 8 2025.

Builth Wells Mayor Councillor Gwyn Davies said: “I think we should be doing something, are we likely to have the churches doing a service or do we light the beacon again?”

Town clerk Louise Hammond told councillors at a recent meeting; “Many towns and parishes are marking that day, which falls on a Thursday, with special events.”

“Communities are being encouraged to light the national beacons for the commemoration again and churches are being encouraged to ring their bells at 6.30pm to celebrate the 80 years of peace.”

Mrs Hammond said the town council will be sent the national information.

Members agreed to think about what they could do and bring any ideas up for discussion at the February meeting of the town council.
