It comes after the name Phillip Snowfield was shortlisted in the council's competition to name its winter gritting fleet.

The council took to Twitter to tell the This Morning presenter the good news.

The 56-year-old, who has 4.5 million followers, promptly replied: "Well that would indeed be an honour."

Shropshire Council asked the public and local schools to suggest potential names and Phillip Snowfield was put forward by a pupil from Oxon Primary School in Shrewsbury.

Other names that made the 48-strong shortlist include Grit the Road Jack, Gritney Spears, Usain Salt and Grit Expectations and even Gritty McGritface.

One of the vehicles has already been named Zac Oliver after the four-year-old from Broseley who is battling an extremely rare form of childhood leukaemia, meaning there is 24 left to name.
