Aarron Dudey

Aarron Dudey had been staying with 47-year-old Paul Jennings in Dawley in March this year, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard.

Mr Geoffrey Dann, prosecuting, said the pair had been corresponding over the internet and Mr Jennings knew Dudey as Dave.

Dudey attacked Mr Jennings after he asked him to leave on March 6. Mr Dann said the pair hugged goodbye but 25-year-old Dudey then pushed Mr Jennings to the floor.

The court was told Mr Jennings felt pain in his neck and upper chest as Dudey stabbed him multiple times. Mr Dann said Dudey made a comment that all he wanted was a friend, before leaving.

Mr Jennings suffered five superficial puncture wounds to his neck, shoulder and chest area. Police were called and they found Dudey on a street.

Mr Dann said: “They saw he had blood stains on his clothing and his hands.”

Dudey told officers he was going to hand himself in and had thrown the knife into a bush.

Mr Dann said: “The defendant makes it clear he remembers watching the TV. The next thing he remembers is having the knife in his hand after the attack.

“This is an attack on a man who has invited this man into his house. The defendant has abused his hospitality.”

Dudey, of Stephenson Close, Glascote, Tamworth, pleaded guilty to wounding and being in possession of the knife.

Mr Paul Smith, mitigating, said his case had previously been delayed because there were psychiatric concerns but the psychiatrist accepts he might be correct that he had no recollection of the event.

He added: “He is deeply shocked and upset about what happened.”

“He would wish on his part to apologise deeply.”

Recorder Martin Jackson ordered the knife to be destroyed.

Sentencing Dudey, he told him: “You were invited into his home as a guest.

“The time came for you to leave.

“For no apparent reason you launched a vicious attack upon him.”

“These wounds were inflicted in an area where there was potential for very serious if not fatal injury.

“Attacking somebody with a knife in their own home really crosses the custody threshold by a very long distance.”

He handed Dudey a 30-month prison sentence.
