Arson-hit public toilets in Market Drayton set to re-open in a few months
New public toilets will be opened in a few months after arsonists caused £10,000 worth of damage to the old ones last year.
Market Drayton Town Council said it should soon be going out to tender for a new stand-alone block outside the town hall, with plans for it to be up and running 12 weeks later.
The toilets, in Frogmore Road, were closed last August when a fire in the disabled toilet spread and caused damage to the walls, light fixtures and fittings.
The fire did not reach the main town hall building, but council clerk Julie Jones said the authority was keen to keep them separate as things could have been much worse.
She said: "We have looked at several types now and we are hoping to go out to tender in the next couple of weeks.
"It will be in the same format, a ladies, a gents and a disabled.
The plans will be discussed at a future meeting of Market Drayton Town Council."
