Telford family hit by fungus problem in damp home

This Telford family has had some unwelcome visitors coming up from underneath the floorboards. But its not rodents or insects that have been causing the Warnock family distress – it's mushrooms.

The family has blamed damp in the living room of their home for the fungi springing up – and say it has been making them ill.

But their landlord has insisted that he is already getting quotes for work to fix the damp and is in constant contact with the family over the problem.

Donna and John Warnock, who live in Dallamoor, Hollinswood, with 33-year-old Donna's three children Alisha Seeby, 10, Mikyle Seeby, five, and Layton Seeby, three, say despite removing the mushrooms they have started growing back.

Mr Warnock, 34, says little Layton was actually the one who found the mushrooms in their living room.

There had been some damp in the living room of the home a few weeks ago, before the family noticed the fungi.

The family has lived in the house for around the year but say they have had damp problems for almost six months.

Mr Warnock said: "All the floor is damp, our sofa is mouldy. We've just been on holiday and we've come back and we're all ill.

"Our youngest son suffers with his chest anyway but we've all been coughing.

"My wife is very stressed. We just don't know what to do now."

Mrs Warnock says she now wants to leave the house, whether the problems are fixed or not.

A letting agent for the house, who said he did not want to be named said: "I have been working quite closely with Environmental Health at Telford & Wrekin Council and have been keeping them up to date.

"They are happy with everything I have been doing at the moment.

"The house is having a lot of work done and I am just getting a quote for fixing the damp in the living room.

"I have been updating them every day."
