Residents in the rural south Shropshire town were surprised to find police searching the area on Sunday evening at about 5pm.

Kieren Bodill, speaking for West Mercia Police, said: "West Mercia Police received a report from a concerned member of the public who believed that they had seen a firearm in a public place in Corvedale road of Craven Arms, Shropshire.

"Police immediately attended and searched a small number of homes, people and a car within the area as a matter of precaution. No weapon was found and no arrests made."
