Arriva Trains Wales drivers strike suspended
A planned strike by train drivers on Arriva Trains Wales has been suspended.
Members of Aslef were due to stage a 24-hour walkout next week in a long running dispute over pay and conditions.
The strike on Monday would have affected services across Shropshire and Mid Wales had it gone ahead.
Stations in the county were left empty when services were cancelled during a walkout on January 4.
The union said: "After lengthy negotiations with the company, Aslef is suspending its strike action on Arriva Trains Wales and lifting the overtime ban in force.
"The matter will now be considered by Aslef's executive committee when it meets early next month."
Aslef said the lifting of the overtime ban, which has been in place since just after the Christmas period, will mean that Arriva Trains Wales will be able to run a full service.
Gareth Thomas, HR director for Arriva Trains Wales, said: "We welcome the suspension of the proposed strike action on Monday, avoiding major travel disruption for our customers.
"We believe it is a positive step towards resolving this industrial dispute. The overtime ban has also been suspended.
"We are hopeful that the Aslef executive will endorse our proposed amended terms and conditions, that we feel now address their previous concerns, when they meet early in February."
