Award for doctor who saved baby's life at Telford hospital
A doctor at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital has been praised by colleagues for saving the life of a baby after complications developed during labour.
Dimitrios Papoutsis has been given a 'SaTH Hero' award by , a specialty doctor in who specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), was praised by colleagues for his quick-thinking actions when a baby was born.
Mr Andrew Tapp, women and children's care group medical director at SaTH, said: "A patient had an immediate significant complication that threatened the unborn baby's life. Dimitrios identified the issue, initiated transfer from one floor to another and conducted this personally.
"He then ensured the mother was safely taken to theatre and delivered in an astonishing time.
"The speed of Dimitrios's response and action resulted in a baby being born alive which in many other circumstances would not have been the case."
Mr Tapp nominated Dimitrios as a SaTH Hero and he received this award and a "Super Hero" Award through the recognition scheme, which celebrated the efforts of hundreds of staff at the Trust at two awards ceremonies at PRH and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Overall, the Trust received almost 200 nominations for individuals and teams across the organisation.
A number of nominees were also named as SaTH Super Heroes, who were selected from all of the nominees by a judging panel, which included staff and representatives from the Trust's Patient Experience and Involvement Panel (PEIP).
