Collin Jeffrey Lieberg, 34, a US citizen living in Hill's Lane, Shrewsbury, was allegedly captured on CCTV repeatedly walking past female guests with his phone held at hemline level.

He was eventually challenged by guests at the Oyster Shed pub near London Bridge in the centre of the capital.

Lieberg, a student in the history of music at the University of Warwick, is now on trial at the Old Bailey for outraging public decency for acting in a lewd, obscene or disgusting manner. He denies the charge.

Prosecutor Max Hardy told the court the main evidence was CCTV footage of Lieberg during the reception on July 26 last year.

Mr Hardy said: "He was at a wedding reception and he used his mobile phone to film up the skirts or dresses of a number of women present at the venue that day. People saw him behaving in a manner consistent with filming up skirts and dresses.

"Mr Lieberg is visible in the CCTV footage, mobile phone in hand, making passes as he goes past women, bringing the phone underneath their skirts or their dresses and filming.

"His actions were noticed that day, he was challenged about them and he denied being involved."

Lieberg was arrested some weeks later but police did not find any 'upskirt' images or photographs on his phone, the court heard. Mr Hardy told jurors: "Images consistent with upskirting were not found. But the prosecution are going to invite you to infer he was doing just that."

Jurors were shown two short CCTV clips showing red-shirted Lieberg inside the Oyster Shed in Angel Lane at 3.50pm and 7.10pm.

Mr Hardy said: "He walks around the bar with his phone held out in the vicinity of hemlines of women's skirts and dresses."

The trial continues.
