Fresh Shropshire air - yours for just £1 a tub

They say Shropshire's air is the finest around - and one businesswoman has come up with the novel idea of bottling it to sell online.

Rachel Moorcroft today said she came up with the "fun" idea after being left with plastic pots and a heated sealing machine from a previous business but did not know what to do with them.

The 32-year-old, who set up her online business Fun Favours from her Bridgnorth home in April, said her sense of humour played a large role in developing the idea.

She went into marketing but moved to Qatar with her engineer husband before deciding to return to the county two years ago.

The fresh air is now being sold in America, Australia and across the UK, with some customers even asking what "scent" the air has before buying the product.

"I always wanted to run my own business and I started selling wedding favours, party bags and novelty items from our home," she said.

"I had a heat sealer, which I used to sell jelly shots in to clubs around the Shrewsbury area, and I was wondering what I could do with the machine.

"My sense of humour is a big part of personality and goes into my designs and ideas. I thought selling Shropshire air would be a fun idea.

"The orders have really took off now and within a week I've gone from zero to 40."

The cartons of "fresh Shropshire air" are filled in her back garden before being heat-sealed and sold on eBay for £1.

She said: "A lot of the novelty stuff I make and design myself.

"I can't believe the interest I've had in the Shropshire air with people contacting me from all over the country."

Miss Moorcroft said she had received a few complaints about her idea because of the amount of plastic used for her Shropshire air containers.

"I am environmentally conscious and recycle as much as possible," she said.

"I am conscious of the amount plastic being used but after contacting numerous companies about using eco-plastic none came back to me.

"I would prefer not to sell thousands of plastic tubs so if there is anyone out there who could help I would appreciate them getting in touch.

"I am now sending them out in bio-degradable boxes."
