West Mercia Police is considering transferring resources from Leominster to Ludlow.

Chief Constable David Shaw told Shropshire Council changes in 2013 may not have got things "completely right".

The move would be a boost to Ludlow, guaranteeing the future of the town's station.

Mr Shaw said: "Two and a half years ago, we had to review services. We made a move that particularly affected south Shropshire by moving one of our bases to Leominster, which covers North Herefordshire and the south part of the county.

"We will revisit that. We may not have got that completely right."

He pledged the review was not "subterfuge for cutting back and de-grading".

He added: "We are just making sure we have got it as good as it could be."

Terri-Anne Powell, of West Mercia Police, confirmed a review had been launched.

She said: "We are currently considering a possible redistribution of resources from Leominster to ensure that we continue to protect people from harm and police the area as effectively as we can. As of yet, no decision has been made and all options are being explored."

She said in 2013 Leominster had been made the "patrol base" for both north Herefordshire and south Shropshire, but Ludlow remained an operational station with its own safer neighbourhood team despite front counter services closing to the public last autumn.

She repeated Mr Shaw's assurance that any changes would not involve cuts to police numbers.
