Constable Peter Ba Han, 54, was suspended by the Metropolitan Police after the material was allegedly found on three devices at his home.

The officer, who is from Shropshire, yesterday denied 11 charges of making 3,851 indecent images of children when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court. Ba Han claims he has no idea how the images ended up on his electronic equipment.

Police seized a computer and external hard drives from Ba Han's home in Telford during an initial raid in May 2013, it is said.

Ba Han allegedly had 11 films and 999 category A images – the most serious category – stashed on three different devices.

He also had seven films and 924 images in category B, and 1,910 images in category C, it is claimed.

Ba Han, of Cooke Drive, Dawley, appeared in court in a green wax jacket and a checked scarf. He sat slumped down in his seat throughout the hearing.

He was granted bail until his trial, listed for September 28.
