Lincoln Evans, 77, who used crutches to walk at the time, was making his regular trip to the Conservative Club in Llandrindod Wells on September 16 last year, said prosecutor Karl Scholz.

He had left his home at Belmont Flats in Temple Street heading for the local Conservative Club at about 9pm and was crossing a street near Dickens Wine Bar when he was robbed by a man.

"As he tried to stop the male responsible he lost his balance and fell to the floor," said Mr Scholz.

As the man ran off, two passing motorists came to Mr Evans' aid and two women helped him to the Conservative Club.

Defendant Richard William Reed, 31, of Camlad House, Treowen, Newtown, denies burgling Mr Evans' flat last August and robbing him in September.

Mold Crown Court heard that when he was interviewed by police about the robbery Mr Evans told them of an earlier incident the previous month.

He had been getting dressed in the morning at his flat when the electricity meter went off.

"He was not fully dressed when he went out the rear door and to a side door where the electricity box was. He noticed a male standing by the side door," said Mr Scholz.

The man made a comment to Mr Evans about the fact he was not wearing trousers and threatened that he would call the police.

Mr Scholz said Reed saw Mr Evans's trousers and took the wallet from them, removed the money and threw the wallet to the floor, telling Mr Evans, before he left, that he was "watching him."

The trial continues.
