The improvement scheme started on January 6 and is expected to take up to five weeks. Signs at the scene say the road will re-open on January 24 but temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Maria Jones, press officer for Shropshire Council, said: "As part of this work, the road is scheduled to be closed from today to allow the resurfacing part of the works to take place which we expect to be completed within a week, weather permitting.

"Following the resurfacing, there will be periods where temporary traffic signals may be used." Diversions will be in place and motorists have been advised to use Copthorne Road or Porthill Road to enter the Frankwell area of town.
