Hundreds of people turned up at Shottaton, near Nesscliffe, for a charity tractor pull in aid of Hope House and the Severn Hospice .

They enjoyed seeing traditional and sporty tractors pull huge weights as far as they could travel.

Angela McKenna, one of the organsiers of the tractor pull, said £2,000 was taken on the gate on Saturday alone.

She said: "We were so lucky as Friday wasn't too good weather-wise, but Saturday was great and despite the weather on Sunday we went ahead and did it anyway.

"On Saturday we had about 400 people come to watch and then more again on Sunday. We had considered cancelling, but it wasn't as bad as we thought.

"The event was a great chance for people to see some of the amazing vehicles used in tractor pulling – I could describe them as tractors crossed with steam trains – or even sports cars to a certain extent.

"It made it all the better again that the event was raising money for Hope House and Severn Hospices – two amazing charities that do so much for people in Shropshire. A final figure on how much was raised will be available in the coming days, but we are confident it will be very nice, it was a great success."
