Ludlow supermarket faces alcohol ban after sting
A supermarket in Ludlow could be banned from stocking alcohol after being caught out in two trading standards stings selling booze to under-age children.
Licensing chiefs at Shropshire Council will discuss what action to take against Costcutter in Coder Road at a meeting next week.
Public protection officer Angela Smith said: "Shropshire Council's trading standards has made an application for a review of a premises licence on the grounds that operations at the premises undermine the protection of children from harm licensing objective.
"The application is supported by evidence of persistent sales of alcohol to underage persons."
A report reveals trading standards "test purchases" in February and May this year resulted in underage sales.
It also claims that further investigations have revealed the licence holder, who has not been named, operated a similar business in Bedfordshire and had received written advice following making underage sales there.
The licensing committee has several options open to it, from taking no further action to completely revoking the licence to sell alcohol. The licensing committee meets on Wednesday.
