Wallis Simpson jewels on sale at Shrewsbury auction
A pair of pearl necklaces linked to Wallis Simpson were being sold at auction in Shrewsbury today.
The two necklaces were being sold by Halls' fine art after being valued at £1,500 each.
A single pearl set clasp on each necklace were originally part of the jewellery collection of the Duchess of Windsor, whose controversial relationship with King Edward VIII led to his abdication in December 1936.
The jewellery were found in the home of a late Shrewsbury woman and are to feature on the BBC TV series Heir Hunters.
Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley, Halls' jewellery and silver specialist, said: "Heir Hunters discovered that the clasps were purchased at the Sotheby's auction of the Duchess's jewellery in Geneva in 1987.
"Without the claps, the necklaces would be valued at between £200 and £400 each."
Other lots up for sale included a dozen chromium plated knife rests designed by famous French illustrator, comic book artist and animator Benjamin Rabier in 1920, with different scenes from Aesop's Fables. They are valued at up to £600.
