Marriage split sparks weight loss success for Lucy
When Lucy Oare's husband walked out on her on Christmas Day 2011 her world was turned upside down – but rather than hide away she decided to become the woman she has always wanted to be.
The Shifnal mother-of-three was classed as obese, weighing 13st 8lbs at just 5ft tall. With her confidence shattered after her husband left her, she started on a huge weight loss programme.
Now five stone and 2lbs lighter she says she is a new woman who has got her confidence back after her heartbreak – and has been dating a new man for the last six months.
Nursery teaching assistant Lucy, aged 32, now weighs 8st 7lbs after keeping to a Cambridge Weight Plan diet.
She visited Shifnal-based consultant Debbie Pierce every week for more than a year to shed the weight. Now her weightloss story has led to her winning an 'Inspiration' award at the annual Cambridge Weight Plan Convention.
She was presented with an all-expenses paid Mediterranean cruise.
Lucy said: "I've always been a little on the plump side since I was a teenager, but I was genuinely happy at that time."
But on Christmas Day 2011 her three children were screaming with excitement and tearing into gifts when her husband said 'I can't do this anymore'.
"Then he broke the shocking news, he was leaving me. I was absolutely heartbroken, especially when I later found out my husband had been having an affair with a much slimmer woman."
She said her confidence suffered and she felt like she had hit 'rock bottom'.
She started to wonder if her weight was the real reason for their split and decided to fight back. She said: "I decided I was going to be the person I longed to be."
