Generous customers at the Asda store on Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury have helped raised the huge sum for a number of worthy causes. Meanwhile staff spent the run-up to the festive season donating clothes, food and gifts to local charities.

The store donated coats to the Shawbury Military Wives Choir as they performed Christmas concerts in the county.

The choir is made up of 40 women with connections to RAF Shawbury and Tern Hill Barracks, near Market Drayton.

Meanwhile, staff at Asda Shrewsbury also brought cheer to a festive carol concert at Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow stadium on Oteley Road by providing 300 mince pies at the event.

The supermarket also provided an extra large turkey and Christmas puddings to homeless charity Shrewsbury Ark to help volunteers lay on a Christmas dinner for homeless people on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile 100 Text Santa hats and 200 satsumas were given to Pontesbury Primary School.

Asda Shrewsbury spokesman, Sarah Raven, said: "We are so very privileged to be able to help where we can, unfortunately we could not help with every request that we have.

"Our ongoing support in the local community is very important to us, it is so nice to be able to make a difference.

"We would also like to thank all our customers for their ongoing support and donations, over the last year."
