The pedestrian, in his 60s, was left with a fractured leg in the incident, which happened as he was walking along Bull Ring in the centre of Ludlow yesterday.

Police said the car started rolling forwards down the hill before hitting the victim. He was trapped between the car and the front of the Red Apparel clothes store.

An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and a paramedic area support officer were called to the town centre and the man was taken to Hereford Country Hospital with a suspected broken leg.

The impact of the accident caused damage to the front of the shop, with glass and other debris being left on the pavement outside.

The road was partially closed for a short time following the incident.

Police said the incident was being treated as an 'accident' but that an investigation into the precise circumstances was under way.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the Bull Ring in Ludlow just before 4pm.

"On arrival at the scene crews found a pedestrian sitting in a shop door way.

"The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 60s, was treated for a suspected fractured lower leg before being conveyed to Hereford Country Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

"No-one else was injured in this incident."

Inspector Tom Harding, for West Mercia Police, said: "A car, which was not being driven at the time, appears to have started rolling forwards and collided with a pedestrian and then a shop front which did cause some damage to the property.

"The man was given treatment but his injuries are not serious and this is being treated as an accident rather than anything malicious."
